One of the most impressive aspects of a robot is how even the simplest control circuit and equally simple mode of movement can produce a viable behaviour which can almost look like a form of intelligence
All the mobile robot kits presented here are well made and both instructive and interesting to build. Once built they can give much enjoyment on their own or in conjunction with others of their own kind or of different "species" in the range.

New to our range of robots is the modular, tracked autonomous mobile robot system, the RP6:

The RP6 is a low cost autonomous mobile robot System. It is equipped with several sensors and a powerful ATMEGA32 8-git RISC microcontroller, which is programmable in C with freely available open source tools. Further, it offers good expansion and cusomisation possibilities.

The RP6 is ideal for educational purposes at universities or schools.

It comes with a very extensive manual along with lots of example programs and a hugh C function library. This makes programming very easy and you can instantly start with the Robot. All library and example programs are open source.
Similar to its predecessor, Robbie RP5, the RP6 has new control electronics with a much bigger and faster processor, a new gearing system for noise reduction, 150x higher encoder resolution (625 CPR) for precise speed regulation and several other new features like a USB interface, a bumper panel in front of the Robot, a very flexible I2C Bus based expansion system and six small expansion areas on the mainboard.

Additionally the robot can be used as a base system for your own developments, having connectors for stackable expansion boards.

RP6 TRACKED CHASSIS

The RP6 tracked base is available as a separate, stand alone unit, which can be used as a base for any robotic project. The chassis is constructed from 2 symmetrical trays, which contain the motors and the spur gears. Wheel axles and drive shafts are supported in sintered bearings. The drives are industrial grade motors, featuring high lifetime and an excellent efficiency, ensring long operating periods with fully charged batteries. The rubber tracks are each driven by two 44mm diameter wheels.

Due to the well designed drive, the chassis is capable of passing over small obstacles as well as steep gradients. The middle of the chassis contains a battery holder for 6 AA-sized batteries. The 2 independently controlled electric motors ensure good chassis mobility as the speed and direction of each track is freely controllable

The RP6 chassis does not contain any electronics

ASURO ROBOT KIT

ASURO is a superb, tiny mobile robot developed for educational purposes by the German aerospace centre. It is very flexible and completely programmable in C. Assembly is easy for experienced electronic technicians and feasible for a novice.

Except for the printed circuit boards (PCB) only standard parts are utilized and freeware tools can be used for programming. Therefore ASURO is exceptionally suitable as an introduction into processor-controlled hobby electronics, for projects in schools and universities, for studies and adult education centres. Special tools, which are freeware for private users, have been used for all electronic development phases and software design, proving that robots can be designed without expensive tools or machines.

ASURO is equipped with an Atmel AVR RISC-processor and two independently controlled motors, an optical linetracer, six collision-detector switches, two odometer-sensors, three indicator LEDs and a serial IR-Interface for programming and remote controlling by a PC.

OUR PRICE: £36.99

ACCESSORIES

There are some additional parts available for the ASURO, in addition to the RS232 IR transceiver included in the kit, allowing the PC software to communicate with the AVR microcontroller.

These currently comprise:

USB IR TRANSCEIVER, designed to support modern PCs without serial ports
OUR PRICE: £19.49
.
EXPERIMENT KIT, including 2 extension boards, pins, sockets, etc for easy addition of your own circuits.
OUR PRICE: £6.99

"MORE FUN WITH ASURO" BOOK - Describes Asuro in more detail than the accompanying manual and goes into advanced C programming techniques. Includes an expansion board and describes how to creat an untra-sonic ranger for ASURO
