FOIL
MODIFICATIONS EXTEND VERSATILITY - SIMPLE AND EASY TO MAKE
Simple
and easy to perform changes to the foil structure can vastly enhance
design flexibility. OFTEN OVERLOOKED, the very nature of many Surfboard
designs are large oversized land areas offering universal pad zones,
intended to be fashioned by the end user to suite their specific
need.

- Using a sharp razor knife, score the foil to define the edges
of the foil section to be removed. It is not necessary to completely
cut through at this point, asa sharp knife will weaken the section
enough for subsequent removal. Experiment a few times with practice
sections.
- Now heat the section to be removed with the tip of a hot soldering
iron. By pressing the iron gently into the foil you can cause
it to delaminate from the fiberglass for removal. Here again,
some practice is essential to get the best results
- Your new
mounting zone or pad changes should look clean and without jagged
edges on the foil or much discoloration of the fiberglass. It
is surprising how good a result can be had with minimal effort.
